About The Book Keepers

Linda Karkhoff

Co-Owner & Founder

Chief Book Officer

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Linda Karkhoff has always been deeply connected to her community. After graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1966, she attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and married Jim Karkhoff in 1970.

Linda’s career path was anything but ordinary. She raised a family, moved between Hutchinson and Owatonna, and later returned to school to study carpentry—becoming only the second woman in her program’s history to graduate. She spent over 30 years in construction, solving problems and bringing creativity to every project.

Now "retired," Linda has turned her passion for books and community into The Book Keepers, Hutchinson’s only independent bookstore. What began as a conversation with her lifelong friend, Paulette Odegaard, became a shared vision: a welcoming space where books, creativity, and conversation thrive.

With store manager Jackie Fuchs and marketing and design support from her daughter, Amanda Moskowitz, Linda is bringing this dream to life. She hopes The Book Keepers will become a staple in Hutchinson, offering books, author events, and a space where everyone feels at home. The community’s overwhelming enthusiasm has been humbling, and she looks forward to welcoming readers for years to come.
